Stereolithography Resin Properties
The materials used in SLA are primarily epoxy-based
resins that offer strong, durable, and accurate models and
patterns. It is ideal for form, fit, and function testing
as well as for visual aids and patterns for tooling.
Material suppliers are constantly innovating providing greater
choice and better properties than ever before. But no matter
what anyone says, materials used in rapid prototyping are
not and will not "match" the properties of engineering thermoplastics.
That being said, many materials have remarkable similarities
to materials like ABS or Polyethylene and will function in
snap fits. Some are water clear to simulate Acrylic or Polycarbonate,
others still have High heat resistance. New emerging materials
have fillers that provide high heat and high compression strength
for tooling applications.
Like we've said before, It's All About Choices and Moeller
can help you chose the SL resin that's right for your application.
